Holden released its LC GTR Torana in 1969. The Torana was much smaller than the Monaro. It was much more nimble and quick off the mark too.

Sitting under the bonnet of the LC GTR Torana was a worked 161 motor with a dual throat downdraft carby, a high flow air cleaner and twin exhaust manifolds, and a higher lift camshaft and superior exhaust valves.

In such a small package the result was spectacular - Holden’s LC GTR Torana sprinted the quarter in 17.2 seconds. Maximum power of 125bhp came at 4800 rpm.
