LX A9X Torana

There’s nothing quite like the muscular stance of the LX ‘A9X Option’ Torana. In fact, we’re not the only ones who think this. The LX A9X (SS hatch) was voted 48th most beautiful car of all time, by Wheels magazine in November 2009…

Born out of a need to homologate its race cars (continuing on from the L34 Torana) Holden released the A9X as an “option package” on the LX SS hatch and the SL/R Torana. Road going variants featured an L31 Holden 308 (5.0L) V8, a four-speed manual and a reverse bonnet scoop.

A9X Race

The 40th anniversary of the Holden Dealer Team was celebrated at this year’s Historic Sandown with a special gathering of former HDT race cars, team members and memorabilia.

On the track (featuring the brutal L34 5.0L V8) the A9X won the Australian Touring Car Championship in 1978 and ’79. To this day it’s the most successful Australian Touring Car ever released by Holden.

A9X Design Features We Love

  • Tough-as flared guards combined with a reverse bonnet scoop
  • The black grille
  • Awesome colour options like Dynasty Gold, Panama Green, Jasmine Yellow, and Valencia Orange

This 1977 Holden LX Torana A9X went up for Auction at Shannons Melbourne Winter Classic Auction in ’08. Don’t expect change from $150k these days!
