So there I was, trawling through carsales for a Monaro… and my heart broke.
I’m not too sure why I was searching for an HK-HG Monaro, because I can’t afford one these days – who has $150k to spend on a car that will sit in the garage under maximum security? It’s a kind of torture I guess. Anyway, so up pops an ad with the promise of an HG Monaro for $17,990.
What I found beyond the first image tore me in two.
Look, I know that the ’80s and early ’90s were filled with modifications to classic muscle cars, but surely the golden rule was hidden somewhere – Don’t cut the roof off!
Maybe I’m missing something here, and I know that Monaros and other Aussie classics were cheap back in the day, but the rear lines on the HK-HG Monaros were some of the most celebrated Australian industrial design of the late ’60s. Just look at what happens when the roof goes.
And it’s even worse with the vinyl roof on.
It’s a sad, sad day at trippytaka. I think I need a beer.
